The Warrnambool Gem Club was formed in 1968. We have fully equipped club rooms located in the 'old pumphouse' in Queens Rd, Warrnambool. We train our members in the art of gem cutting, both 'cabachons' (domed gemstones such as opal) and faceted gemstones such as Amethyst, Garnets, Topaz etc. Members also do gem carving and set stones in commercial settings. We are planning to set up silversmithing and glass fusing facilities by the end of this year. We have a wide range of members ranging in age from teenagers to seniors. Our members come from many parts of the south west of Victoria including Terang, Woolsthorpe, Portland, Tarrington, Koroit, Port Fairy, Camperdown and Mortlake. About two thirds of our members live in Warrnambool. We also conduct some 'field trips' each year to fossick for gemstones. Our club is affiliated with the Victorian Gem Clubs Association (V.G.C.A.) and so members also go on field trips organised by the V.G.C.A.
