Portland Calisthenics Club Inc

Overview

Portland Calisthenics Club was established in 1959. Calisthenics combines a range of dance styles including ballet, gymnastics, modern & folk dance and jazz. It teaches singing, acting (mime) and apparatus (rods, clubs, etc). Students learn routines throughout the year in each of these disciplines and styles and then perform on stage in competitions, the year culminating in an annual concert held in November. Calisthenics is much more than a sport - it teaches strength, flexibility, co-ordination, balance, self-confidence, teamwork, stage craft and musical appreciation.

The club offers classes from Tinies to Intermediates currently and aims to have a Senior team in 2016. We have fully accredited coaches teaching classes 3 times a week as well as scheduled solo work. Our club is a competition club so participants are expected to be available through the competition season (recreational classes are offered in some age groups - conditions apply).

We encourage anyone with an interest to visit our club or participate in one of our come and try days.

Portland Calisthenics Club is a registered member of CVI - the Victorian administrative body for the sport.

Portland Calisthenics Club relies heavily on the support of its member families. Our committee meets monthly and all positions are voluntary. The committee gives generously of its time and aims to act and manage the operation of the club in the best interests of its members and coaches both now and in the future. The Club's success will see the retention and growth of its participants and the learning of new skills, confidence and friendships through their enjoyment of the sport.

Anyone wishing to find out more about the sport or to come and visit our club can do so by contacting us on any of the above links.
