The Portland Community Garden Land-Care Group Inc (PCGLG) formed in 2013 to build a community garden on 2 acres (8400m2) of land at 81 Henty Street Portland. The land was formally part of the Portland High School and is owned by Dhauwurd Wurrung Elderly & Community Health Service In and the garden site is managed by PCGLG under a 10 year MOU. Another 5500M2 is now leased on adjacent land from the Glenelg Shire until 2023 where the main community building has been constructed.
The Portland Community Garden Landcare Group project will provide access to land, education and other resources so people in the Shire of Glenelg can grow food in an environmentally sustainable way and create a community food system where locally grown and healthy food is available to all.
Our mission is to grow food in an environmentally sustainable way through the cooperation and connection of all community members regardless of their age, race, physical or intellectual ability.
