Portland Racing Pigeon Club

Overview

Pigeon Racing has been a family sport since the 1890’s and is world wide today with millions of birds flown every weekend, this sport allows any member of the family to participate.

The breeding is also an exciting time in the loft for all members of the club trying their best to breed the winning team. The community benefits from this in building stronger Families with team work and decision making a big part of the sport. Allows for safe environment for juniors and females with support from the elders and members. Juniors learn about responsibilities early that help the community share the load later on in life as they mature to take the roles of the retiring community leaders. Pigeon racing is also a very affordable sport allowing more people to be active, interact and make new friends at their own pace.

The older community can find companionship with their birds taking the edge off loneliness leaving more time to be happy and positive.

Children can learn about gestation periods and watch an egg be laid then hatch 18 days later and watch it grow to be an adult bird training and caring for it as he or she can do for a child when they get older and start teaching the children of the community positive steps in life and how to nurture one another.

Learn about our flora and fauna and understand our native wildlife better giving our community an opportunity to live in a balanced environment.

Have opportunity to become office bearers within the club and learn about the structure of club rules and regulations better understanding the democratic ways of our community.

The Pigeon Club has invited Kyeema special school to get involved with the release and watching the birds return to the Lofts to be clocked, fed, and watered. We have bird sales and auctions where all proceeds go to Kyeema as a donation to help them develop interactive activities.
