Walkabout with Portland Coastal Cliffs Inc. had a very successful native planting day on 5 May 2019 with several new volunteers and members.
The storm-water drain at Nuns Beach Portland was the chosen site where previously Conservation Volunteers had cut the coastal wattle and other invasive weeds in preparation for jute laying and plantings.
Glenelg Shire Council provided a marquee as Landcare provided their tablecloth for a volunteers tables for insurance purposes everyone signed the Conservation Volunteer form.
Portland Field Naturalists provided a speaker on the birdlife in the native habitat PCCI is providing with pictures and descriptions.
Lee played his guitar and fresh fruit, nuts and lots of healthy snacks was catered for by Lido Larder after the tremendous efforts of the community - Thank you. R. Race Secretary.

Since 2005 an estimated 252,000 native plants have been planted at the significant coastal cliffs with assistance from local community residents and various community groups. Thank you. Invasive species include Coastal Wattle, Bone seed, Victorian Gorse, Mirror Bush, English Ivy, Boxthorn,Cape Wattle, Sweet Pittosporum, Italian Blackthorn, Pampas Grass, Sea Spurge, Grass, Cypress, Pines, Polygala or Myrtle Leaf Milkwort, Bridal Creeper, Cape Ivy, Blackberry to name a few which volunteers have had to cut and paste or dig out.
