Portland Bowling Club is situated on the corner of Bentinck St and Wade St. Next to the War Memorial Lookout and overlooking Portland Bay.
If the bowls are a struggle where else can you relax and compose yourself enjoying the magnificent and ever changing views of Portland Bay. Games have been known to stop to watch whales frolicking in close proximity to the club.
Portland Bowling Club conducts social bowls all year. From September to the end of April five days per week and from May to September three days per week. All social bowls are drawn events allowing individual visitors to participate.
Members have access to the greens at any time for practice and coaching by qualified coaches at no cost to the member.
Free coaching by qualified coaches is available to those wishing to start bowling or just wishing to try bowls. Contact the club to organize a time.
The club conducts a "Try Bowls Day" each season that anyone is welcome to attend. Watch for the advertising on community noticeboards and in the Observer.
The club encourages other organizations to use the facilities for social bowls. A number of schools, community organizations, social clubs, work groups, sporting organizations and other community groups regularly use the facilities for social activities. Club members assist with conducting social bowls for these groups.
Seaside Carnival conducted over five days at the end of January into the beginning of February. This event attracts 500+ individual entries every year. Betty Herbertson Invitation Fours held in November each year. Betty is the only bowler from Portland represent Australia, was a regular member of the Victorian State team while a Portland Bowling Club member, and the NSW State team after shifting to NSW.
