RSPCA Portland

Overview

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria) is a non-government, community based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

'RSPCA Victoria is the trusted advocate for animals and leads social change so that all animals live according to the Five Freedoms’.
o Freedom from hunger and thirst.
o Freedom from discomfort.
o Freedom from pain, injury and disease.
o Freedom to express normal behaviour.
o Freedom from fear and distress.

To achieve this, the RSPCA’s community services include the work undertaken by our Inspectorate, Animal Shelters, Clinics and Educations teams.
Each year, more than 304 dogs and cats find second chances through our Portland Adoption Centre. If you're looking to adopt a pet, there are lots of dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs waiting to find loving new homes at RSPCA Portland.

The operations of RSPCA Portland are overseen by our Shelter Supervisor, Leanne, and a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. As such, there are always new and exciting opportunities for volunteers to join our teams in a range of roles, from helping out in the shelter, adoption centre, or even one-off local fundraising events.
Our tireless work in Portland and our achievements in animal welfare are only made possible with generous support from the local community. Whether you are able to contribute a financial donation, donate blankets, attend our local Million Paws Walk or spare your time as a volunteer - everything helps the animals we care for.

Major Events

Million Paws Walk The Million Paws Walk is a fun day for all animal lovers! Over 25,000 people walk at 16 different locations across Victoria annually. Money raised through entry fees, the sale of merchandise and online fundraising help to fund our critical work in the community, including the care of more than 28,000 animals entering our shelters each year. Taking part in the Million Paws Walk is a great way to help animals in need. All animal lovers are encouraged to brush off their walking shoes, pull out their pet’s leash and bring along their ‘best friend’ to Australia’s favourite pet event. Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is all about baking, eating and most importantly donating to help us rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals each year. Who would’ve thought cupcakes had the power to save thousands of neglected and abandoned animals? To learn more visit http://www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au/.
