Our Mission is to create a community Hospice in the Home service for people who are dying.
Our vision is to provide people who are dying with the option of compassionate care in their own home settings, meeting the living needs of those who are dying as well as the needs of their family and friends.
Volunteers provide direct support to people in need of care, carers and families as part of a multidisciplinary team. The volunteer fulfils support requirements identified by the people in need of care, carers and families, in consultation with the Hospice Manager.
Volunteers must comply with volunteer policies and procedural requirements of the Warrnambool and District Community Hospice.
Volunteers provide a wide range of services, such as:
• practical assistance to the dying person
• practical assistance to the family and carers
• giving family or carers the opportunity to take a break
• any other helpful tasks within the boundaries of the volunteer
Volunteers will be trained to assist with end of life care, to meet the needs of the person, and family/carers. They will offer practical and emotional support according to circumstances and resources, allowing periods of ‘time out’ for family members/carers. Should professional help be required, volunteers will have access to existing 24 hour on call services e.g. District Nurses. Training Volunteers Volunteers will undergo a recognised Palliative Care Victoria training course, as well as ‘hands-on’ instruction relevant to end-of-life care.
