Portland Powerhouse Car Club

Overview

The Portland Powerhouse Motor & Car Museum is one of Portland's leading tourist attractions.

We are an inclusive organisation that is run exclusively by volunteers, attracting many thousands of visitors to Portland each year.

The Museum is open to the public 7 days per week, from 10am to 4pm daily, 363 days per year.

The Museum houses an extensive collection of veteran, vintage and classic vehicles, cars, motorcycles, trucks and tractors, including a fully restored 1920s Melbourne tram and grip car. We have a very large Ruston Hornsby engine in working condition as well as many smaller stationary engines.

All of our displays have informative and easy to read signage. There are some interactive displays for big and little kids.

There are a number of exhibits that have a unique Portland history, from a 1910 hand operated fire cart to a 1930s overhead pull wire money transfer system.

There are a huge number of old tin signs and petrol related memorabilia, including a selection of 1940s+1950s tin toys.

We are always interested in new members and can organise to cater for visiting groups, given sufficient notice.

In early 2015 we opened our new club meeting rooms which may be available for community members to use.

Most of our members are from the Portland Vintage Car Club, which runs and operate the Museum, though we do have, and encourage, community minded volunteers to assist with manning the Museum door on week days.

Our building is wheel chair friendly with a disabled parking space, that has a side ramp access area close to the Museum entry point. Our modern toilets meet the latest Australian Standards for disability access.

Major Events

In November 2015 our Museum is celebrating being open to the public for 30 years. An achievement that we are justifiably proud of, and intend sharing with the community.
