City of Warrnambool Eisteddfod Society Inc.

Overview

The City of Warrnambool Eisteddfod Society Inc. organises and stages an annual series of competitions in seven areas of the performing arts under the banner of the City of Warrnambool Eisteddfod. The objectives of these competitions are:
* to give competitors stage experience in the areas of speech & drama; vocal and instrumental music; classical and contemporary dance; debating; calisthenics; Highland dance and pipe organ, and
* to give competitors the opportunity to receive professional adjudication and feed back.
The Eisteddfod runs from May till September each year and offers 34 days of competition. During that time thousands of competitors take part.

While the Eisteddfod is a festival of performance, it is equally a festival of community. The current organising committee is comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly from February to November to put together a quality eisteddfod which is intended to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all involved. We are looking for people who have an interest in any of the listed disciplines who are able to join the Committee as active planners and programmers.

In 2015 we introduced a new administration software program, STARDOM, and believe that, with full implementation, this will become an effective and time-saving innovation. We are seeking computer competent volunteers to assist current section conveners so we can work to full implementation in 2016. We really need your help!!

Volunteers are also invited to help with daily administration during each competition. Supporting jobs include manning the registration desk, box office support, acting as an organisational assistant to the various adjudicators, assisting in organising competitors and pre-competition organisation. (A Working with Children Certificate is required by each volunteer.)

The City of Warrnambool Eisteddfod Society Inc. is a non-profit organisation. We are very thankful to our sponsors which include the major local philanthropic trusts, the Rotary Clubs of Warrnambool, Creative Victoria, the City of Warrnambool, local schools, businesses and organisations and the families of past and present competitors and Committee members. We are always happy to hear from new sponsors who will be acknowledged on our website (www.warrnambooleisteddfod.org.au), in all print materials and from the stage during competitions. The Eistedfodd cannot take place without the monetary support from these organisations and individuals.

The tradition of the Eisteddfod movement began in Wales as a festival of literature, music and performance in the C12th. The tradition has continued in Warrnambool since 1975 when the first eisteddfod featured 150 competitors competing over one weekend. We need help to maintain the tradition and the growth that has occurred over 40 years. Involvement is rewarding and a great way of 'giving back' to the community.
