Kurri Kurri Co-Op Society Ltd

Overview

From out of the ashes of the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983, like a phoenix, was born the Kurri Kurri Co-operative.

With a name derived from the Aboriginal expression for "the very first", a group of like-minded people set out to purchase remaining pockets of bushland, often close to national parks and reserves, to prevent their development. These blocks also preserve a valuable source of local flora and fauna for future generations.

Today Kurri Kurri Co-Op has a membership of 124 shareholders and has been successfully maintained for over 30 years. To survive well into the future though, it is essential that we find new young passionate members to carry on the vision that was begun all those years ago. Members meet on site a number of times a year to carry out essential works and for social purposes. We are registered under the co-operatives act and our books are audited each year.

New members are required to purchase 250 - $1.00 shares and pay an annual levy, currently $20 per year which covers administrative expenses.
