The Merino Progress Association Inc was formed in 2004 with a statement of purpose to -
Encourage a sense of pride and community spirit in our town.
Be environmentally friendly.
Represent community needs.
Aim for the future with the knowledge of the past.
Be pro-active.
We raise funds through a weekly raffle with sponsorship from Paddy's Waterhole, Merino Hotel and Merino General Store, donations and grants. Some examples of our projects are -
A monthly community newsletter - The Merino Community News.
The funding, development and ongoing maintenance of a walking track that follows an old stock route which included tree planting, the installation of a prominent sculpture and picnic area at an old artesian bore site along the track.
Tourism and historic marker information signage throughout the town.
A defibrillator for the Merino Pool, a BBQ and gazebo used for community events including Australia Day.
We support where and when we can the Merino Community Festival, Merino/Digby Lions, Merino Public Hall and Merino Rural Fire Brigade.
The MPA meets every second Thursday of the month at 7pm in winter at Paddy's Waterhole and 7.30pm during daylight saving at the Merino Public Hall.
New members are encouraged and welcome.
