SEA change Portland

Overview

What is SEA Change Portland?

SEA Change Portland (Sustainable Eating and Activity) is a new approach to healthy eating and active living developed by the Portland community, specifically for the Portland community.

A new approach. For all intent and purpose, the SEA Change Portland approach is really quite different to anything that has been done in the past. In understanding what exactly this new approach is, it is sometimes easier to detail what it is not. This is not a project or a program. It is not based on funding and does not have a defined start or end date and it is certainly not business as usual. On the contrary, SEA Change Portland is a new way of doing things.

What has brought us to here?

It started with a series of small workshops with local community leaders to help develop an understanding of all of the factors that influence healthy eating and active living in the Portland community.

Following on from the initial work that had been done, in July 2014, Deakin University facilitated two larger workshops with a broad cross section of the Portland community.

The first workshop further developed the healthy eating and active living picture and provided a high degree of clarity into the magnitude and complexity of all of the influences that impact on healthy eating and active living.

In the second workshop, the Portland community identified and prioritised Portland specific action ideas that would enhance healthy eating and active living opportunities. It was also at this workshop that community members identified what they were willing and able to do to take action.

The next steps.

Now the work begins to piece all of the action ideas together and to work on the ever important implementation. So watch this space….
