Port Fairy Warrnambool Rail Trail

Overview

The Port Fairy Warrnambool rail trail links the historic towns of Port Fairy and Koroit with the regional city of Warrnambool.

The trail passes through open farming country, remnant vegetation, bypasses the 25,000 year old volcano, Tower Hill and traverses wet lands and coastal sand dunes.

Although the trail crosses a number of roads it soon takes the user into tranquil farming land and beside wet lands and watercourses.

The section of the trail from Port Fairy to Koroit is gradually upward to just past the Koroit Railway Station. The trail then drops down to the Princes Highway at Illowa.

From Illowa the trail then undulates along the Illowa Road and along the Merri River before reaching Warrnambool.

An ideal ride for families is between Koroit and Port Fairy (17.9 km.) and either riding back to the starting point or arranging transport for the trip back.
