Fitzroy River Quilters members are a group of 38 people who range in age from 13 to 85 years old. We have a wide and varied range of skills that are sadly being neglected in todays society.
Our aim is to create interest and understanding and learn skills that have long since supported previous generation. These skills encompass hand crafts and knowledge associated with quilting, knitting, embroidery and lacemaking to name but a few.
As a group we have provided support and comfort to wide sections of the community and as an example I tender the following. A few project days are organised throughout the year where we make Christmas decorations, handbags, knitted toys and ornaments for sale to gather funds for our "comfort quilts" which we make to support the people in our community that have distressing times and need the extra comfort that a quilt can give. We have made quilts that are called " Hero Quilts" for our service men and woman who are presently deployed overseas. At the time of the bushfires we made dozens of "Koala socks" to support these animals recovery.
